What is Rehab Actually Like?

When you are ready to put struggles with drugs or alcohol in the past and start researching rehab programs near you, you will likely notice a few options or “types” of rehab. Although each type strives to provide the most comprehensive, effective addiction treatment care, you should be aware of differences before beginning treatment. Choosing the best type of rehab to meet your care needs is essential in achieving lasting sobriety.

Are There Different Types of Rehab Programs?

At Liberty House Recovery Center, we offer different types of rehab programs, including detoxification programs, inpatient residential treatment, and dual diagnosis care.

Detox

Supported detoxification in Michigan offers medical and mental health support during the first stages of addiction treatment. The first step in many drug and alcohol addiction treatment programs is detox. It is essential to cleanse your system of all harmful substances before you can safely and effectively begin treatment to overcome addiction. As a part of medically supported detox services, members of our skilled and compassionate team at Liberty House Recovery Center will monitor your physical and emotional health to ensure safe and successful detox from drugs or alcohol.

Inpatient (Residential) Treatment

Most Michigan residential treatment programs range from 28 days to a year or more, with varying durations in between. Short-term treatment programs (lasting approximately 30 days) are not suitable in all cases; however, a short-term program may provide the help they need to get sober for someone whose level of addiction is considered mild. Also, if suitable for your needs, shorter programs are beneficial for those who need the structure of an inpatient treatment environment but have family or other obligations they cannot be away from for long. In these cases, a 28- or 30-day inpatient program followed by a comprehensive outpatient and aftercare program offers a successful option for obtaining and maintaining sobriety.

60-day rehab programs are very common. They provide a middle ground between shorter programs and extended 90-day rehab. 60-day programs provide an equivalent level of care to many 90-day programs. However, they are ideal for someone who has a moderate addiction and does not require significantly extended care or detox services.

Although shorter treatment programs are effective for some, research suggests that optimal treatment outcomes are achieved in a program lasting at least 90 days. When you struggle with addiction, it affects all aspects of your life, including your physical and psychological health and family and social relationships. Substance abuse challenges lead to various complications that require time to address adequately.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

When you struggle with a simultaneous mental health condition and a substance use disorder, it is called a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder. In our Michigan dual diagnosis treatment program, we will work with you to develop a plan that addresses all aspects of your physical and emotional health. During therapy, you will learn more about the thoughts and behaviors that lead to harmful coping mechanisms like using drugs or alcohol to cope with mental health symptoms.

What is Rehab Actually Like?

Most rehab programs begin with an intake interview (assessment), followed by detox, therapy, and aftercare. The assessment process is a vital first step as it allows your treatment team to learn more about your mental health, physical health, and relationship with substances. Intake or assessment helps your team understand your current medical and emotional health to ensure your treatment plan includes therapy models that focus on your unique treatment needs and goals.

Often, the following parts of rehab are detox and therapy. During detox, you will safely and successfully wean off alcohol or drugs under the safety of highly trained medical and mental health providers. How long it takes you to finish detox (from several days to several weeks) will depend on the severity of your addiction and various other factors. Members of your treatment team will be there throughout the process to offer medical or emotional support should you need them.

During therapy, you will participate in various traditional and alternative therapy models. The goal of treatment is to help you understand addiction and the thoughts and behaviors that led you to use drugs or alcohol. As your primary treatment program comes to a close, we will work closely with you to establish an aftercare program that involves ongoing therapy and peer support throughout your continued recovery.
